Who is Your Teacher?
Hello! Thanks for visiting our class website! For those of you who are new to my classroom, you might want to know a little bit about me since we will be spending six hours a day, and 180 days of the year together!
To begin, 2023 will be in my twelfth year teaching at Martin School. Before becoming a teacher here at Martin and before becoming a mom, I used to teach 4th grade in Franklin, Massachusetts as well as 5th grade in Colorado! Fourth grade, however, is my FAVORITE grade to teach and I am so happy to be teaching here where I live and in the town where my own children went to school.
I have three children. My oldest daughter is a senior in college, my son just started college, and my youngest is a junior at SHS. Sometimes, they come by and visit our classroom! I also have a dog named Daisy, who you will hear a LOT about because she is my best little buddy and I always have funny stories about her! I also have two kittens named Betty and Teddy who are very cute!
When I am not teaching, I love spending time with my three children (if they want to hang out with me!). I LOVE to be outside! I take my dog for hikes in the woods, go to the beach, collect lots of shells, and I also love to read, paint, and take LOTS of pictures. Another hobby of mine that is very important to me is yoga. Yoga is something I have been doing regularly since 1996, and I am also a certified yoga teacher. I am also trained in the Yoga4Kids, a yoga and mindfulness program for classrooms, and use many of these strategies and other mindfulness techniques in my classroom.
I have Bachelor's degrees from the University of North Carolina and the University of Rhode Island. I earned my Master's degree in Special Education from Simmons College. A highlight of my career was my volunteer work with Teachers Training Teachers, which afforded me the opportunity to travel to Haiti to train Haitian teachers in educational pedagogy.
I can't wait to get to know all of you and have a great year together! -Ms. Carvalho
